This module is designed for students who are new to language learning and are unfamiliar with the terminology of grammar and syntax, but is open to all students taking 1000-level language classes in Latin or ancient Greek. It takes a comparative approach to English grammar and syntax, highlighting similarities and differences between English and other languages.
The classes help students understand better their (often) purely intuitive use of the English language and allow them to draw connections between different languages, their vocabulary, their grammar, and their syntax. They also give students confidence in translating from one language into another, giving them the tools to identify idiomatic expressions and language-specific rules around basic grammar as well as complex syntax.
Please provide your module choices and then sign up for an honours advising appt.
