The module will have a specific focus on applied issues in philosophy of law, where we will analyse the important philosophical concepts and debates behind pressing contemporary issues including what acts ought to be (de)criminalised; the limits of breaking the law, civil disobedience and political rioting; racial bias, injustice and profiling within criminal justice; gender bias, norms of consent and sexual violence within law; the legal status and ethics of self-defence; and international refugee law and obligations to refugees.
