This module serves as an in-depth overview of contemporary Latin American literature by women, with an emphasis on narratives of the self or life-writing. We will travel together within and outside the Americas as we analyse the works of authors from Mexico, Nicaragua, Argentina, Peru and Chile, in a variety of genres (letters, diaries, memoirs, travel writing, crónica, essay, nonfiction novel). The module is structured in a chronological and thematical form; it departs from what is called ‘the long Sixties’ as a symbolic breaking point in women’s cultural history and continues up to very recent works that offer first-hand accounts about diverse mobility experiences that are shaping the world we live in, including but not limited to touristic travel and migration.
