This module explores the connection between cultural products and memories of the past. Key concepts of collective memory will be discussed using three case studies, each exploring a particular regional, national, religious or political cultural memory traced through literary and filmic texts as well as public memory projects, archival material and lieux de mémoire. Students will develop skills acquired during the first two years of Comparative Literature by applying a critical, analytical approach to these sources, encouraging them to recognize and interpret shifts, fault lines and conflicts within cultural memory from a trans-national perspective.
