These Biology Skills Tutorials aim to develop Biologist skills and employability skills through a series of activities. Typically, there are around six tutees in each tutorial group, although this can vary. These groups are arranged by the Biology Teaching Office to best match student degree programmes and tutors’ interests. These tutorials offer an informal, supportive learning environment in which you can explore Biology with students studying similar degrees, while developing your skills. The tutorials also present an opportunity to build a productive relationship with your tutor which should be useful for your preparation for your next step after your degree (e.g. discussions about career directions, writing references).

Tutors will contact tutees via email, at the start of the semester, to introduce themselves and confirm tutorial dates/times/locations. Note that times may change subject to tutor/tutee commitments, so please check your email regularly to note any changes.

In addition, as you progress through your degree at the University of St Andrews, you will participate in a wide variety of tutorial classes within the School of Biology. But keeping track of all of the skills you've learned across all the modules and years can be surprisingly difficult! Therefore, this Moodle will help you pull out any relevant non-academic skills you've practiced for job applications, CVs, and cover letters, and consider which skills you have gained, or have yet to gain, during your time at St Andrews.
