Building on SD1000’s general introduction to SD, this SD1004 Module explores in more detail the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that currently occupy both scholars and practitioners. Students will gain an understanding of the various challenges and opportunities surrounding our 17 SDGs; they will study the concepts and debates involved in formulating SDG objectives and will explore how these are currently translated into practice. Key issues under investigation include the tackling of the history of development, policy coherence for inclusive sustainable development, governance dimensions of sustainable development and human security, nature-based solutions, inequality, blue carbon and climate mitigation. The module also highlights recurring, cross-cutting themes such as values, partnership, and diversity as ambitions of sustainable development.
