This module aims to introduce key theories and methods pertaining to anthropology’s engagement with media, technologies, and multimodality. We will survey topics related to the visual, material, the digital, the curatorial, the collaborative and interlinked cultures of creation, practice, dissemination, and circulation. This is the second module of two core modules that make up the MRes programme in Anthropology, Art and Perception. It is aimed at preparing students for one of main elements of the course assessment, the independent project, which is geared towards exploring sensory and non-textual forms of anthropological knowledge production. We will examine a range of media, methods and technics which make creative, diverse, and innovative ethnographic interventions and theorising possible.
