Course info

We aim to assist students to come to a functional understanding of some key areas in physics, namely classical mechanics, oscillation and waves and optics, and properties of matter. We hope to promote interest in the subject areas. We aim to develop a range of important skills, including lab skills, maths skills, mathematical modelling skills, problem-solving skills, communication skills, and skills of "seeing the big picture". Typically in each teaching week there are four lectures, one tutorial, one problem-solving workshop, and 2.5 hours of lab class. Students should also plan for a significant amount of private study each week.
