ME5209 is the second of two core modules that address the interpretation and criticism of medieval sources. This module builds on the interpretative skills learned in ME5208. This term we move from looking at one source or genre to an introduction to some of the key themes with which medieval historians have been grappling in recent years. After a couple of weeks focussing on the major bibliographical tools for medieval research, the module will further develop your understanding of current historiographies and the role that these play in shaping research questions and methodologies.
The module will culminate in an essay on sources and methodology for a topic of your choice and an assessed presentation to the class.
